"Send a Kid to Camp"
At BIG BEND MARITIME CENTER we have three experienced Boatwrights who guide the youth camps and adult classes as they work together to build a variety of high-quality and functional wooden boats for recreation, livelyhood & craft.
In the 14 months ending July 31, 2015, the BBMC built and launched 14 wooden boats. We involved 49 community youth and 34 community adults. Volunteer totaled over 1000 hours of service. We have restored 3 antique boats.
Our mission is the preservation and interpretation of maritime heritage.
Providing hands-on education & experiences while serving the Underserved and at Risk Youth in our Communities.
At the BIG BEND MARITIME CENTER we teach wooden boat building, encourage community involvement and strive to continue the rich cultural heritage of our local maritime activities, communities, families, and workplaces.
